Rapid X - ray variability of the superluminal source GRS 1915

چکیده
The superluminal X-ray transient source GRS 1915+105 was observed during July 20-29, 1996 with the Indian X-ray Astronomy Experiment (IXAE) on the Indian satellite IRS-P3 launched on March 21, 1996 from Shriharikota Range in India. During our observations covering the energy band 2-18 keV, we have seen strong erratic intensity variations on time scale of 0.1s 10s. Quasi Periodic Oscillations (QPOs) in a frequency range of 0.62 to 0.82 Hz were detected with a rms fraction of about 9%. The rapid X-ray intensity variations in GRS1915+105 are similar to those observed in some other black hole binaries and thus provide further support for the hypothesis that this source is likely to be a black hole. We discuss the possible emission region and mechanism of the observed quasi-periodic oscillations. Comparing the observed QPOs with the ones observed in other neutron star and blackhole systems, we argue that GRS1915+105 is possibly a black-hole.

متن کاملThe surroundings of the superluminal source GRS 1915 + 105
We have carried out radio studies of the surroundings of the superluminal microquasar GRS 1915+105. Our main goal was to understand the possible relation of GRS 1915+105 with two infrared/radio sources that appear symmetrically located with respect to GRS 1915+105 and aligned with the position angle of the relativistic ejecta. We have also studied a nearby supernova remnant to test if the event...
متن کاملFast aperiodic variability in the black hole binary GRS 1915+105: the timing signature of relativistic ejection events
We present X-ray observations of the Black-Hole Binary GRS 1915+105 made with the RXTE (Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer). We concentrated on timing analysis of the strong variability focusing on its aperiodic variability on short (<1s) time scales. In the power density spectra, we found a feature which is seen in many transient systems, but until now was not detected in GRS 1915+105 due to its elus...
متن کاملA unified model for the spectral variability in GRS 1915+105
We have analyzed the spectral variations of the superluminal black-hole X-ray binary GRS 1915+105 by using data obtained with the PCA on the Rossi XTE. We find that, despite the marked differences in the structure and the time scale of variability, all spectral changes can be attributed to the rapid disappearing of the inner region of an accretion disk, followed by a slower re-filling of the em...
متن کاملOn the Origin of the Various Types of Radio Emission in Grs 1915+105
We investigate the association between the radio “plateau” states and the large superluminal flares in GRS 1915+105 and propose a qualitative scenario to explain this association. To investigate the properties of the source during a superluminal flare, we present GMRT observations during a radio flare which turned out to be a pre-plateau flare as shown by the contemporaneous Ryle telescope obse...
